Hooked on Crocheting....

So I finally have the basics figured out! Thank goodness, as I was so close to giving up. I guess I can put it down to the You Tube brainwashing I put myself through the other night. It really was bound to click after the 5th tutorial...lol! Anyway, I have now made a number of little things, a scarf for Thomas' teddy, a blanket for Harry's WuWu and a few other long rectangular things I am yet to figure out their purpose for.

The yarn I am using is w4 acrylic which is pretty easy to work with, I have to say I love the color too, or should that be colors? As I couldn't decide in the store what color to go for, I went with the rainbow yarn. Its great for an indecisive mind like mine, its exciting to see what color will appear next in your row of stitches.

Next I will try and teach myself to crochet in the round, which will hopefully lead to one of those cute flowers. I have read the instructions on the flower pattern below and honestly its still all gibberish to me. But I know I will get there! I purchased some new yarn today and am eager to pull it out for a play. Time to make more rectangular things!

How to Crochet a Flower (Part 1) - CraftStylish

How to Crochet a Flower (Part 1) - CraftStylish

Can this old dog really learn a new trick?

There is just something so delightful about the whimsy of crochet. Like granny blankets made up of all those little round crochet pieces sown together. Little kids blankies, scarves, hats, even hair accessories! I love it all! Love the colors and the design, love that it looks easy to do. Sure I can do this!

For Christmas last year, Santa gave me a crochet hook and some yarn. A whole year later and the hook was still in its packaging and the yarn had been played with by the kids. Ok, time to dig it out and do this already!
I thought I would turn to one of the best teachers around and one that came recommended to teach me crochet...You Tube. After watching a number of how-to tutorials for beginners, not to mention a number of choice words and throwing of the ball of yarn. I am no more ahead than I was before I started. Just more frustrated!!! How the hell do you hold the thing? Why does mine not look like theirs? I lost count with how many times I pulled it apart to start over. grrrr! While I am determined to learn this, it really is harder than it looks. I have the passion to learn but maybe not the co-ordination. I feel all thumbs! So I will keep trying and post my (so far frustrating) journey! I really would love to produce some beautiful one of a kind crocheted pieces in my store!
Love this blanket by Attic24 and these fun little whimsical pieces that would be great for hair accessories by Wardi dk love the inspirations!

Feeling inspired!

One of my beautiful "crafty & talented" friends is thinking of making crafts to sell. We've been grabbing coffee together every Wednesday now for the last few months. And as we are both frustrated stay at home moms with school kids, looking for a bit of extra spending money. We are talking shop! I can't wait to see what we come up with. Time to dive into the craft closet again and get inspired!!!
Also, I've been to the library and started researching online about the laws and selling your "hobby" I am intrigued to see what we can do...time to put this talent to work!
